This year at Astley Media, I was given the job of managing the PR for the Devon Venus Awards 2015.

The Venus Awards celebrate women in business across 9 regions of the country. It’s about celebrating their professional achievements as well as encouraging women to fulfil their dreams and allowing them to realise that you can raise a family as well as exceed in your profession.

I have been involved since the very start of the 2015 awards. I was so greatful to get given this responsibility back in January as it was a great way to start my PR career and I was really looking forward to working with the Venus Awards right from the beginning of the year until the awards ceremony.

Throughout the year, I have been to various Venus events including the launch and finalist announcement. I have had the opportunity to meet business women from across Devon and hear their stories and I’ve had the opportunity to grow as a PR professional by writing my own press releases and getting media coverage for the awards.

The winner’s award ceremony happened on Friday night so this year’s Devon Venus Awards has now come to a close. The night was held at the University of Exeter and was extremely hectic but exciting and a lot of fun. It was wonderful to see the reactions of the people who won and how much it meant to them.

All the ladies were dressed up to the nines in beautiful outfits and it was great to see just as many men there supporting their partners, family or friends. We all sat down in the Great Hall to a scrummy three course dinner with the winners being announced in between each course. All the women also got a Venus goody bag with gifts from Bishop Fleming, Sampson Hall and Sally Allen London.

I loved working with the Venus Awards as it is something that I am genuinely interested in and I really do care about. I think it’s extremely important to recognise and celebrate women in business as well as men. We are all so busy in our hectic lives but the Venus Awards give us all a chance to step back for a moment and look at what we have all achieved. Congratulations to all the winners but also to those who were nominated this year!
