Keen to get an insight into agency life and some experience of PR and Marketing, Naomi started an internship with us alongside her final year studies at the University of Exeter. Here, she recounts her experience…

Going into my final year at Exeter University studying Management with Marketing, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in that field. However, all my internships so far had been client-side and I was keen to experience what working for a marketing & PR agency was like. I came across Astley Media when researching local agencies in Exeter and was lucky enough to be taken on as an intern for the first term. The team was super flexible to enable me to fit in the work alongside my studies and were always making sure I did not take on too much. But despite only interning for two days a week, I was able to gain a great insight into the fast-paced environment of an agency.

Within my first week, my colleagues had me writing press releases for Stagecoach and creating tweets for Astley Media’s Tech South West initiative. Having worked with Hootsuite before, I was given the responsibility to schedule social media posts myself and could live out my creative side by designing supporting visuals. Furthermore, I was tasked with conducting an in-depth analysis of a potential client’s online presence and preparing a report which was used in a meeting with the client. The variety of tasks allowed me to gain an invaluable insight into the exciting life at a marketing & PR agency and develop a range of new skills, such as how to use the programme MailChimp to draft newsletters.

Everyone at Astley Media made me feel so welcome straight away and I always looked forward to coming into the office. The lovely team was also incredibly supportive with tasks I was not initially confident I could perform well, and I knew that I could always ask anyone for help.

I would therefore like to thank everyone at Astley Media for the amazing experience – especially Leah and Elle who took me under their wing! It was a pleasure to work with you and I can only recommend this internship to anyone who is interested in gaining an insight into PR and marketing.
