As part of the Pathways to Marketing Programme at the University of Exeter, Gemma joined us in the Astley Media office for a week of work experience. Here, she describes her experience…

Being a second year Psychology student at the University of Exeter meant that I had little knowledge surrounding marketing and PR. However, I was lucky enough to complete an action-packed, insightful one-week internship at Astley Media! Although I was only with the team for a short period of time, it has already confirmed that a career in PR and marketing is the place for me.

Prior to my internship, I completed a Pathways to Marketing Programme at the University of Exeter where I was given the task of drafting a Tech South West Awards marketing campaign. This gave me a great introduction to working with Astley Media and I continued to work on this project during my internship.

The variety of work at Astley Media meant I could learn many different skills from writing press releases and website posts to drafting tweets and contributing my ideas within meetings. Working for a variety of companies like Stagecoach, Fast Track To Growth and Tech South West meant every day at the office was different and extremely valuable.

I was initially attracted to Astley Media due to their excellent marketing reputation within Exeter and the vast variety of clients they work with. As soon as I entered the office I was welcomed by every member of the team and was made to feel valued when I was given the responsibility of handling many important tasks. I felt I could make the most out of my internship by asking questions and getting advice from the team and now I feel in a better position to continue my passion for marketing.

I would like to thank everyone at Astley Media for having me and making my internship an insightful and enjoyable process which will help me on my way to perusing a career within a similar field. To anyone looking to gain experience within the marketing and PR sector, I could not recommend contacting Astley Media enough. The variety of work means you can make the most out of the experience, learning new skills and insights every day whilst working within a very happy and knowledgeable environment.
