Jenny recently completed a 6-week internship at Astley Media after contacting us, keen to increase her experience in PR and Marketing. Here, she tells us all about her experience…

I am a Philosophy undergraduate at The University of Exeter and I have had an absolutely fantastic, fast-paced six weeks at Astley Media. Moreover, I have been lucky enough to work with the lovely, passionate team here.

Within the first week of the internship, I knew that I wanted to establish a career in Marketing and PR. I love the variety of work, the fast-paced environment, and I was amazed at the amount of influence a relatively small agency can have.

Within my second week at Astley Media, I was helping to launch a global marketing campaign, had learnt how to use six new types of software, and felt immersed in the team. Needless to say, the learning curve was steep and I was given a great amount of responsibility. This meant that I developed new skills and learnt a huge amount about marketing and PR very quickly.

I worked closely with a number of companies over the six weeks, including Space, Complete Estate Agents, Tech South West, Ralph Winter, Hospiscare, and Stagecoach. My work included writing press releases, managing social media platforms, analysing data, writing blog posts, and organising events, alongside a multitude of other tasks.

I found the work not only enjoyable, but rewarding; not only could I express my creativity through marketing campaigns, but I was able to work on meaningful projects that really matter to individuals and the community.

For example, during my last week at Astley Media, I helped to organise a fun-filled day out on behalf of Stagecoach for a young boy called Frazer who suffers from a life threatening illness. Working on this project was very rewarding as it meant that I could help to create the fantastic day out that Frazer and his family deserve.

I also particularly enjoyed carrying out competitor analyses, in which I analysed companies’ websites and social media in depth. Getting to know a company inside out is very interesting and is essential for any marketing campaign.

I would like to thank the team for providing me with this amazing opportunity. It has been a pleasure to work with everyone at Astley Media and the experience I have gained is invaluable.
