Katherine recently completed a 5-week internship at Astley Media after contacting us, keen to increase her experience in PR and Marketing. Here, she tells us all about her experience…
Fresh from graduating Loughborough University with a Publishing and English BA degree, I was focused on attaining experience in the PR and Marketing industry. A career path I have been interested in for some time, writing, creating and relationship building have been key areas of interest to me and therefore I’ve found that the Communications sector is firmly where I belong. However, before applying for permanent positions, I wanted to determine if this was the right role for me to kickstart my career in.
I was attracted to Astley Media due to its sizable reputation in my home city of Exeter and creative campaign history with its wide variety of clients. My five-week internship has been filled with exciting and interesting opportunities to support all members of the team reach their goals. From day one I felt like part of the furniture in the office, as every team member made me feel incredibly welcome and valued. Each person working at Astley Media has a strong passion for what they do and a drive for success with a focused yet fun approach to day to day activities. This was a large part of why I felt so happy to go to work each day, as the environment brought positivity and inspiration to every assignment.
It was rewarding to experience the inner-workings of agency life: watching an idea materialise into reality, building relationships with new and existing partners and observing the fervent determination of team members to do the best work possible for their clients.
Over the time I was there, each day held new possibilities to grow and shaped my ability to envision what a career in PR and Marketing would involve. No two days were the same, and there was no such thing as routine, which I loved!
In terms of my responsibilities, they were varied yet integral to the successful execution of client work. I helped organise and plan upcoming events, assisted in filming for Complete Property, supported arrangements and execution of the 350-person Heart of the South West LEP conference, wrote social media content for Stagecoach South West, Space and Fast Track to Growth, updated websites and more. In addition, I used software to manage social media posts such as Hootsuite and compiled media lists using Agility PR – great assets to any PR & Marketing career.
I felt very lucky to be given the opportunity to intern at Astley Media, and am exceedingly grateful to the entire team for welcoming me so warmly.
If you’re thinking about gaining some experience within PR or Marketing, I would definitely recommend Astley Media. Get in touch today – you never know when they may be looking for some new talent!
